Honda Jazz scores highly for reliability

Warranty Direct conduct new research

Automotive specialist Warranty Direct examined the Warranty Direct database of 50,000 live policies to reveal the Top 10 most reliable used cars parents should consider if they are planning to buy their child’s wheels for further education as they move from home to university.  The quirky Honda Jazz takes the top spot with the Citroën C1 in second place and the UK’s favourite Ford Fiesta completes the top three recommendations.

Warranty Direct’s unique reliability index ( takes into consideration the rate of failure, average mileage, age and repair cost. The Honda Jazz takes the honours with a tiny one percent breaking down in a typical year. At the other end of the table, nearly a third (29%) of Mini Coopers suffer a fault, costing on average £394.57 to repair each time and almost half of these issues comprise electrical and engine faults.

Duncan McClure Fisher, Managing Director at Warranty Direct, said “sending your children off to university is a major milestone in any parent’s life. Often, this will be the first time your child has lived away from home and their safety and wellbeing will be of the utmost importance to you. The last thing you want is for them to drive away in a car you don’t trust not to leave them stranded. We've looked at cars in the A and B sectors (city cars and superminis), as these are the cars most likely that parents might be buying their uni-bound children and thankfully, there are plenty of vehicles in those sectors that also provide the peace of mind that comes with reliability.”

Parents contribute to child’s car

Figures show that approximately 71% of parents make an average contribution of £3,300 to the purchase of their child’s car and 40% buy their child’s first car outright. Taking these figures into consideration parents may also choose to purchase a brand new car. A brand new Honda Jazz is currently available from only £135 per month and there is a 0% APR PCP finance package available. Jazz customers receive five hundred pounds deposit contribution, whether they pay cash, or finance the car through one of the flexible packages available. To further reduce running costs and maintain affordability and reliability Honda is offering a four year service plan for £399 across the majority of the models in the range. This offer, combined with Honda’s standard three year road side assistance, three year new car warranty and Honda’s reputation for bulletproof reliability, means affordable and hassle-free Honda new car ownership.

Another fantastic city car parents should consider for their children that are flying the nest is the popular Skoda Citigo.  This great little supermini is available from only £69 a month again on only 0% APR, plus there is the added extra of three years free servicing. The Citigo has a spacious and bright cabin which can easily accommodate four adults, no matter how long the journey. It also has the largest boot in its class and a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
