Hyundai Moves Upmarket With New Executive Saloon
What Is it?
The All-New Hyundai Genesis is a high-spec, executive, saloon and the “most refined and technologically advanced” vehicle its manufacturer has built for Europe, Hyundai claims. This 4-door saloon – that is only available in a single form - sends a clear message to the motor industry: “Hyundai is moving upmarket”.
Breaking into a new market is a tough proposition for any motor manufacture. As of now, Hyundai is typically perceived as a worthy rival to mainstream brands such as Ford, Vauxhall and Citroen. The All-New Genesis – in terms of price and specification – lines-up more against prestigious brands such as Jaguar, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Prestige is important in a car of this class, so however capable it might take some time for this new model to find favour.
What Engine Does It Have?
Hyundai Genesis power comes courtesy of a 3.8-litre, 315 PS, V6 petrol engine that is bolted to 8-speed automatic transmission. It hits 62mph in 6.5 seconds and top speed is 150mph. This rear-wheel-drive saloon – that also produces 397Nm of torque – averages 25.2mpg. This rises to 32.8mpg on the extra-urban cycle and falls to 18mpg in town. Tailpipe carbon emissions are 261g/km.
What Equipment Does It Have?
The All-New Hyundai Genesis has a wide range of equipment. The smart boot system, for example, ensures the tailgate opens automatically if it detects the key in close proximity for more than 3 seconds. Handy if a motorist is carrying lots of shopping.
The Genesis also has 4 cameras – 1 each side – to make manoeuvring in tight spaces easier. It complements smart cruise control that automatically adjusts the vehicle's speed based on the surrounding traffic. This saloon also has satellite navigation, automatically brakes should a motorist fail to react to a hazard, and has a head-up display that projects information in the driver's line of sight.
Anything Else I Need To Know?
The Genesis is only available from a few of the manufacturer's most prestigious dealerships. These are: East London, Macklin Edinburgh East, Bristol Street Motors Nottingham, Richmond Guildford, Johnsons Cars Coventry, Vantage Stockport and Dalys Garage Belfast.
The vehicle is sold via bespoke showrooms that have “quality furniture and premium materials” to echo the “premium ambience” of the car, Hyundai claims. Each is operated by specially trained staff.
How Much Is It?
The New Hyundai Genesis is available now from £47,995 on the road.
