Back in 2006 David Hatcher was lurking at the back of a friend’s car repair business and spotted a very rusty and not so red 1992 Rover Mini Italian Job, it is a limited edition of only 1750; a mixture of Red, White, Blue and Green that were manufactured to celebrate the original “Italian Job” film.
David and his son Matthew decided to rebuild the mini together to sell and make some money even though it had been off the road for four years since it failed its MOT. David was still in the midst of restoring his MG Midget so Matthew started removing the rusty parts of the mini.
With numerous setbacks such as his son Matthew discovering alcohol and girls the Italian Job took an even further back seat plus he also acquired a 1983 Mini for my daughter Sarah that also needed some work.
The Italian Job didn’t get underway until late 2009 starting with the purchase of numerous replacement panels. The car was finally rebuilt and painted in August 2011. David is now in search of the previous lady owner from the Hitchin area who had implored to the previous owner at the car repair business not to break her beloved car for spares. David would love to show her that the car hasn’t rotted away and has been restored to its former glory. Read David's Mini Italian Job Special Edition Journey
