Jaguar E-Type Celebrates 50th Anniversary at Goodwood
The Jaguar E-Types' 50th anniversary will be celebrated at the Goodwood Revival in September 2011.
The Jaguar E-Types' 50th anniversary will be celebrated at the Goodwood Revival in September 2011. This historic occasion will be marked by the Fordwater Trophy Race, which will feature the finest collection of significant and authentic racing E-Types ever assembled. These include six of the twelve remaining lightweights, plus low-drag coupés, roadsters, and fixed-head coupés. Three other lightweight models will be on static display. An exceptional line-up of top drivers will compete in this forty-five minute tribute race. These include: F1 stars Gerhard Berger, Jackie Oliver, Jochen Mass, Adrian Newey, Desiré Wilson and Tiff Needell - touring car masters Andy Priaulx, John Cleland and Anthony Reid - ex-Jaguar Le Mans winner Andy Wallace - and comedian Rowan Atkinson. The Jaguar E-Type was launched in 1961 and produced until 1975, when it was replaced by the lesser-loved XJS. More than seventy-thousand examples were produced during its lifetime, and this two-door grand-tourer is now perceived as one of the world's most iconic vehicles. In fact, in March 2008, this mighty machine was ranked first in the Daily Telegraph's list of 'One-Hundred Most Beautiful Cars of All Time'. I feel inclined to concur.
