Jaguar F-PACE: Powerful New Crossover
New Jaguar F-PACE is an agile, responsive, and refined crossover class vehicle with potent performance, manufacturer claims.
What Is it?
The Jaguar F-PACE is a crossover class vehicle that offers “agility, responsiveness and refinement”, its manufacturer says. The purpose of a crossover is to blend the rugged look of a 4x4 – and in some forms 4-wheel-drive itself – with the confident handling and fair running costs more typical of a family car. This workhorse looks muscular thanks to F-TYPE inspired rear haunches, vents and tail lights. It also has a bulging bonnet which suggests power and a bold grille. Such strengths complement the “class leading” rear knee room and “astonishing” 650-litre cargo capacity.
Kevin Stride, Vehicle Line Director, said: “The all-new F-PACE is a Jaguar that customers around the world demanded that we make. The targets we set are among the most challenging we’ve ever had to deliver but I’m proud to say that the all-new F-PACE meets or exceeds every one of them.” He added: “This is a performance crossover with outstanding dynamics yet also delivers a smooth, quiet ride. The F-TYPE-inspired design combines dramatic looks with a spacious interior and an exceptionally large luggage compartment.”
What Engines Are Available?
Jaguar F-PACE engines include the 2.0-litre, 180PS, diesel. In rear-wheel-drive 6-speed manual form, it propels motorists to 62mph in 8.5 seconds, averages 57.7mpg and emits carbon at a rate of 129g/km. Adding 4-wheel-drive shortens the time to 62mph to 8.2 seconds, and ensures it burns a little more fuel (53.3mpg). Carbon emissions rise to 139g/km. This 4-cylinder power plant – when bolted to 4-wheel-drive – is also available with 8-speed automatic transmission. This set-up has no impact on the 0-62mph time but – in comparison to the 4x4 manual – is slightly more fuel efficient.
The 3.0-litre, 300PS, diesel is only available with 4-wheel-drive and 8-speed automatic transmission. 0-62mph takes 5.8 seconds and it averages 47.1mpg. Carbon emissions total 159g/km. The 3.0-litre 380PS supercharged petrol engine, in contrast, propels this lifestyle statement – that has bodywork predominantly built from aluminium to save weight – to 62mph in 5.1 seconds. It also averages 31.7mpg and emits carbon at a rate of 209g/km. This unit is only teamed to 4-wheel-drive and 8-speed automatic transmission.
What Are The Trim Levels?
The Prestige trim has: a powered boot, 8-way leather seats, front and rear parking sensors, sat-nav plus a lane departure warning system. The R-Sport adds sportier styling thanks to its special: bumpers, sills, seats and metallic peddles. S trim enhancements include: red callipers, rear camera and premium mats, etc. The Portfolio trim builds on the strengths of the Prestige. Extras include: 10-way leather seats, headlamp power wash, heated windscreen and a camera. The First Edition, in contrast, is only available in limited numbers to celebrate the launch. 200 are destined for the United Kingdom. Features include: 22” wheels, a panoramic roof, illuminated sill finishers and rear electric seats.
Anything Else I Need To Know?
Ian Callum, Director of Design, said: “By remaining absolutely true to our design principles the all-new F-PACE is immediately recognisable as a Jaguar. It offers all of the interior space you would expect – and more – but because of our disciplined approach to surfaces, proportions, and purity of line we have designed what I consider to be the most balanced (and) most attractive vehicle in its class”.
Mike Cross, Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity, added: “We develop every Jaguar to offer an unrivalled combination of agility and responsiveness with exceptional ride and refinement – and the all-new F-PACE is no exception.” Mr Cross continued: "Applying all of the learning from F-TYPE, the steering reacts immediately, giving a truly connected feel. The double wishbone and Integral Link suspension offer the ideal balance of precise handling and body control, making the all-new F-PACE as rewarding to drive as it is comfortable to be driven in – on any type of road.”
How Much Does It?
The F-PACE costs £34,170 to £65,275 and can be ordered immediately.
