Fancy winning a red dot? Sorry, too late... the Kia Picanto and the Kia Rio have already claimed top honours in the Red Dot Design Competition. To be precise, the city car and supermini claimed the 'Product Design' category in a competition that had more than 4,500 entries courtesy of 1,800 manufacturers from 58 countries. This brings Kia's 'red dot' total to six; as their Soul, Venga, Sportage, and Optima claimed prizes between 2009 and 2011.Kia’s Chief Officer, Peter Schreyer, said. “We are very proud of the Red Dot Awards for the Picanto and the Rio.” He added: “They are a great tribute to our entire global design team, because all three Kia design centres were involved in the development of both vehicles.” This is, in fact, only the latest prestigious award for the capable manufacturer. The Kia Picanto recently claimed both the 'Under £9,000' and the '£9,000 to £11,000' titles in the Parkers' Cost of Motoring New Car Awards. The judges considered a number of factors before handing the silverware to this city car. These included: depreciation, maintenance, fuel, and road tax costs over three years/thirty-thousand miles. Kia is clearly on a roll, and will no doubt covert its collection of red dots. I can hardly wait for the “Blue Stripe Awards”.
