Motor industry showcases latest models including: supercars, roadsters, city run-arounds and sports-utility vehicles.
Noble M600 at London Motor Show
The London Motor Show kicks-off May 6th 2016 and showcases 35 car brands and more than 130 models.
Highlights include the Noble M600 which is among the fastest production cars in the world. Power comes via a 4.4-litre, 662bhp, V8 twin-turbo petrol engine that propels it to 62mph in 3.5 seconds. Top speed is 225mph (estimate).
The Noble M600 produces 604lb ft of torque at 6,800rpm, has 6-speed manual transmission, and 380mm front brake discs with 6-piston callipers.
The London Motor Show exhibit has black and red paint plus a bare, exposed, carbon fibre roof that emphasises its status.
New MG GS sports-utility vehicle
MG Motor UK's new sports-utility/crossover vehicle makes its presence felt too. Details are sketchy – or virtually non-existent prior to the unveiling - but the GS rivals models such as the Nissan Qashqai, Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson.
The styling is arguably quirky and its badge helps it appeal to patriotic drivers.
Matthew Cheyne, Head of Sales and Marketing for MG Motors, said: “We’re extremely proud of the GS, so we’re looking forward to unveiling it and speaking to attendees of the event about how easily it will fit into their lifestyle. I can assure potential customers that it will be consistent with the MG-family pricing strategy.”
Bespoke Land Rover Defender by Afzal Kahn
The London Motor Show commissioned a bespoke, one-off, Land Rover Defender to commemorate its retirement from Afzal Kahn; a British designer.
Expect: Santorini Black paint, body coloured arches, integrated vents, exposed bolt apertures, black wheels (20-inches), orange brake callipers, plus a range of interior trim enhancements.
Afzal Kahn said: "I have designed a vehicle that celebrates the history and unique personality of the Defender. My designs are known for their attention to detail, so I didn't want this Defender to be any different.”
He added: “This is a fitting tribute to one of the world's best loved vehicles - and I would welcome feedback”.
New Caterham 620S
The Caterham 620S draws the eye too. The manufacture revealed it is: “The mildly saner, more road-oriented, sibling of the ballistic 620R”. This Roadster has a 2.0-litre, 310bhp, supercharged engine, 5-speed manual gearbox and “creature comforts” such as a: heater, full windscreen, hood/side screens and more comfortable suspension.
What else is there?
Other London Motor Show highlights include the: McLaren 570GT, Riversimple RASA (hydrogen powered), Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, Abarth 695 biposto Record, Fiat 500X, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and Jeep Renegade 75th Anniversary Edition.
