Mercedes-Benz Launch New Vito

Next Generation Van Is Unveiled

Mercedes-Benz have launched their new Vito van in Berlin as the next generation of their popular model expands its range.  It goes on sale in 2015 and will offer van buyers increased dimensions and better fuel efficiency.

The Vito family includes the panel van, Crew and Tourer.  The Vito Crew will feature a crewcab while the Vito Tourer which can carry passengers will have two versions available, the Vito Tourer PRO and the premium SELECT.

With two wheelbases and three lengths, the Vito is now 140 millimetres longer than the outgoing model.  The maximum height is less than two metres and the Vito is also class leading with the highest upper payload at up to 1,369 kilograms of cargo.

There is a choice of five diesel engines and the Vito is also the first van in this class to offer front and rear-wheel drive.  When transporting low to medium payloads there’s a 1.6-litre four-cylinder engine which is available as either an 88hp 109 CDI or 114hp 111 CDI.  Needing more performance the Vito comes with rear-wheel drive and a 2.15-litre with three outputs: 136hp 114 CDI, 163hp 116 CDI and the 190hp 119 BlueTEC.

A six-speed manual gearbox is fitted as standard with the option of the 7G-Tronic Plus automatic with torque converter on the 114 CDI and 116 CDI variants, but it does come as standard on the 119 BlueTEC.

With the Vito design focusing on economy, consumption is now 20% less than its predecessor.  The BlueEfficiency package which is available on the rear-wheel drive model and comes as standard on all Tourers has a good MPG figure of around 49.6.

Safety on the Vito includes airbags and a seat belt reminder on the panel van, with windowbags and sidebags on the Tourer models.  Standard safety systems include Attention Assist, Crosswind, Blind Spot and Lane Keeping Assists along with tyre pressure monitoring.  New on the Vito is Active Parking Assist and another uniqueness on vans is the distance warning system.

The Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Light System is also another feature for just the van range and consists of LED daytime running lights, indicators and low-beam and main beam headlamps with cornering function.

Whatever the use, the new Vito looks like it will be as strong in the market as the outgoing version especially with the increased model range.  Going on sale next year full UK pricing is to be confirmed.
