Mercedes S-Class collects third honour

‘Luxury Car of the Year’

The stunning new Mercedes S-Class has collected its third honour of 2014, it has been voted Luxury Car of the Year in the BusinessCar Awards by the readers of BusinessCar.

Runner up was the new Mercedes CLA-Class was runner-up in the Business Car of the Year category and Mercedes-Benz was highly commended in the Manufacturer of the Year category. BusinessCar Editor Paul Barker said “Mercedes-Benz has made a splash at the 2014 BusinessCar Awards that’s in-line with its growing fleet presence and influence, and it’s clearly a brand on the up. The beautiful new CLA coming second in our headline Business Car of the Year category shows how far Mercedes has come, and the Highly Commended spot in our Manufacturer of the Year category illustrates that the company is now right in fleet consciousness, while the peerless S-Class’s Luxury Car of the Year victory endorses Mercedes’ quality and prestige.”

Nick Andrews, Head of Fleet at Mercedes-Benz UK, said “this is the third award collected already this month, which is a massive achievement and a sign of the new S-Class realising its aspiration to be the best car in the world.”

The new Mercedes S-Class is available in two trim choices; SE Line and AMG Line plus two wheelbase options standard and long. There are three engines offered, the S 350 BlueTEC, S 400 Hybrid and the S 500.

The new S-Class boasts improved levels of standard equipment including the addition of a reversing camera, COMAND Online NTG 5, full LED Intelligent Light System, DAB digital radio and Keyless Start. The new Mercedes S-Class is the first vehicle in the world where the interior and exterior is without a single light bulb.  The lighting's multi-level functionality is another world first: out of consideration for any road users behind, the intensity of the brake lights is reduced at night or while waiting at traffic lights. Almost five hundred LEDs illuminate the road, the vehicle, the interior and the boot. The Magic Body Control suspension system also debuts on the new Mercedes S-Class, linked to the new Road Surface Scan system, the Magic Body Control uses a stereo camera located on the top edge of the windscreen to scan the road up to 15-metres ahead, allowing it to model a precise image of the road surface. The system then uses this image to calculate if any action is required to react to uneven road surfaces.

With all the improvements in technology, in equipment, safety systems and efficiency, the new S-Class has already collected accolades for Luxury Car of the Year for both WhatCar? and CarBuyer. Prices start from £62,650  for the S 350 BlueTEC SE Line.
