Mercedes S-Class is ‘Chaffeur Car of the Year’
The Mercedes S-Class has picked up the Professional Drivers ‘Chaffeur Car of the Year’ award
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has picked up the Professional Drivers ‘Chaffeur Car of the Year’ award. Editor of Professional Driver and chairman of the judging panel Mark Bursa said “the S-Class received consistent scoring from all the judges who tested it, and it’s a testament to its quality that a car toward the end of its product lifecycle can still outscore some newer rivals to win our Chauffeur Car of the Year category for 2012. Good customer support has also played a major part. Mercedes-Benz made major improvements to its chauffeur programme this year, with the S-Class now matching its competitors pound-for-pound, so it boils down to taste. And the three-pointed star still carries a lot of kudos in the chauffeur industry.”
Since its launch in 2005 over 440,000 Mercedes S-Class have been sold worldwide and over 13,800 of these were sold in the UK. Throughout 2012, the S-Class has received a total of four awards including Auto Express Best Luxury Car, What Car? Best Luxury Car, and the Sunday Times Best Executive and Prestige Model. The judges of the ‘Best Luxury Car’ Award 2012 agreed that “beautifully built and offering unrivalled comfort, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class is still the best luxury car on sale.” The Mercedes S-Class has proved itself a leading luxury saloon benchmark for some thirty years, yet it also boasts some of the world’s most advanced harmful emissions-reducing engine technology. The Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC is now fitted with ECO start/stop as standard making it even more efficient than before. Ten per cent more efficient is the Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC returning 45.6 mpg on the combined cycle while CO2 emissions have been reduced by 7 per cent to 164 g/km. The Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC was the first car to market that already meets EU 6 standards that don’t come into effect in the UK until 2014.
The Mercedes S 350 BlueTEC L is equipped with one of the world’s cleanest diesel engines, returning 41.5 mpg and 177 g/km of CO2 on the combined cycle. With its generous equipment levels, class-leading comfort and peerless safety standards, the S 350 BlueTEC L is priced at £64,610 on the road.
Mercedes-Benz recorded a record performance in September led by the Mercedes C-Class which ranked the sixth bestselling car in the UK for the month of September. Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz UK said ‘the diversity of the gains across the range suggests that Mercedes-Benz is extremely well placed in the market with the right products at the right time. These record results come as we’re yet to launch the exciting new A-Class into the market which is extremely heartening and bodes well for the future.”
