A new Toyota Prius Hybrid that boosts the limited two mile range on electric power to twelve and half miles has been unveiled.
The increase in power comes from a new lithium-ion battery and makes the Toyota Prius capable of up to 60mph in electric mode compared to 30mph. The extra distance on electric power means a further fall in co2 emissions to 59g/km and the plug in can be charged from a standard electric socket.
Toyota will trial the Toyota Prius plug-in with corporate buyers. There will be a worldwide fleet of six hundred with 20 available in the UK. It is thought that the Toyota Prius Hybrid will be on sale within the year. It has been suggested that Toyota will extend the plug-in technology to other models and it will be used in the Toyota Auris Hybrid hatchback.
