MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli visits UK

MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli headed to Manchester to meet his UK fans

Due to the Japanese round of the World Championship being cancelled, the Italian headed across Europe instead to Dainese’s flagship D-Store.

‘It is my first time in Manchester as before today I’ve only come to England for the Grand Prix at Donington and Silverstone.’

Nicknamed ‘Super Sic’, he is sponsored by the legendary Italian motorcycle clothing brand, which since 1972 has revolutionised motorcyle protection and safety. Many motorcycling icons have worked alongside Dainese to help make the brand what it is today, such as Giacomo Agostini, to Valentino Rossi.

Despite the city’s famous two football clubs playing away at Wembley, fans still came out in their droves to meet the popular rider known for his big hair.

He added: ‘It is very important for me to do events like this and everytime there are always a lot of people and it’s very nice to meet the fans.’

From grannies to babies, the Mancunians welcomed the former 250cc World Champion to the store for the fans signing event. He even had a request to sign a fan’s arm so he could then go and get it tattooed!

Patrick Smith, the D-Store manager, was really pleased to have the Italian rider in attendance.

‘The visit of Marco Simoncelli shows the level of commitment that Dainese has for its only store in the UK. In five years we have had some great riders visit, but this is the first time a MotoGP rider and World Champion has visited.’

Racing resumes for Simoncelli at Estoril in Portugal at the end of this month, when he hopes to continue his strong start to the season and get that first MotoGP win!
