New Bentley SUV creates ‘one thousand’ jobs
Bentley first ever 4x4
The first 4x4 Bentley will be made in Crewe the northern headquarters for Bentley and will create more than one thousand jobs. Bentley has also said they will be investing more than £800 million into the HQ over the next three years. All the famous cars made by the brand including the flagship Mulsanne limousine have been made at the Crewe plant since 1946.
Rumours have recently arisen suggesting that Volkswagen, Bentleys German parent company could opt to build the new SUV overseas in Bratislava, the Bentley Chairman and chief executive Wolfgang Schreiber said “the group board is not fighting for Bratislava, we are all fighting for the best solution for the group and Bentley, there is also the chance that the car maybe built in Bratislava and Crewe delivers the parts to Bratislava.” Bentley has since played down this possibility so the production of this new vehicle will be in the UK. The Prime Minister David Cameron has also commented he said “it is another important milestone in strengthening our economy; one sector that we know is sprinting ahead in the global race is our booming automotive industry. I am delighted that Bentley will be building their new vehicle here not only creating one thousand jobs but safeguarding many more as well as increasing training opportunities for highly skilled apprentices.”
There is no name as yet for this new SUV which probably won’t arrive on the market until 2016; it will also no doubt be the most expensive on the market. By producing this fourth model Bentley is following the footsteps of Porsche who produced the Porsche Cayenne which is incidentally now their bestseller. The design will probably be similar to the EXP 9F concept car that was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show last year. The company say the model will be a "thoroughbred" Bentley with all the brand's "hallmarks of luxury, performance, quality and craftsmanship." It will most probably sell extremely well in the United States and the company’s biggest market China where the fabulous Bentley Flying Spur Saloon is expected to exceed one thousand sales this year.
Dr Winterkorn Chairman of Volkswagen said "the Volkswagen Group believes in the UK as a competitive location for industrial production. Bentley fans all around the world are looking forward to the brand's first SUV. Together we will make this new Bentley another true Bentley; powerful, exclusive and successful."
