New car production increases
New car production figures announced
Kevin Gaskell, chairman of motoring.co.uk, comments on the car production figures announced today:
We anticipate that vehicle production figures for October will show a good year on year increase. The government scrappage scheme supported by tactical marketing campaigns from vehicle manufacturers has been very effective at encouraging the sales of new cars. This has had a combined effect of reducing average CO2 emissions by almost 30% on a new car for old car basis as well as putting safer vehicles on our roads. Consumers are buying smaller cars as these cars attract the full benefits of the scrappage scheme as well as lower CO2 taxation over the vehicle life. The scrappage scheme has thrown a lifeline to vehicle component suppliers, car manufacturers and dealers who were struggling to deal with an unprecedented fall in new orders during the last half of 2008 and first half of 2009.
