The new Renault Clio Eco2 is the greenest production car the manufacturer has ever produced
The new Renault Clio Eco2 is the 'greenest production car' the manufacturer has ever produced, claims the French motoring giant. This environmental champion has a 1.5-litre 86bhp diesel engine that returns a combined average of 76.3mpg, and has rock bottom emissions of only 98g/km. That means this specific Clio is exempt from paying road tax, which is great news for cost concious planet lovers. The Clio Eco2 achieves its low fuel consumption through a series of impressive technical innovations. These include revised engine mapping, taller gear ratios, low rolling resistance tyres, and aerodynamic modifications. These streamlining improvements involved adding front wheel arch liner extension flaps and an enclosure for the rear axle. Nerdy, but extremely effective. These factors combined mean the Clio Eco2's emissions are 17g/km lower than the previous model. This fuel sipping run-around is available as a three-door Extreme version, or the higher specified five-door Expression. Both feature the 20W RDS radio CD player with fingertip remote control, fog lights, and electric front windows. The Expression also has electric mirrors. Desirable options include the 15” alloy wheels, and the TomTom satellite navigation system. So, what does the new Clio Eco2 cost? Renault are offering this model for exactly the same price as its more polluting predecessor. This, they hope, will give them an edge over the competition who can charge considerably more for environmentally models. List prices start at £12,690, but if this is too much Motoring.co.uk's database reveals the Clio range as a whole is available from only £7,995.
