The New Ford Ranger is one big 4x4 - it’s huge and boasts some class leading towing capability. It has been awarded Pick-up of the Year at the What Van? Van of the Year Award 2013 and this trophy will sit along nicely with the ‘International’ Pick up Award it won recently. The new Ford Transit Custom was awarded the prestigious What Van? Van of the Year. Paul Barker, What Van? Editor said “the Transit Custom is not the only good news for Ford, with the excellent Ranger also a clear winner in our Pick-up of the Year category, and a trio of highly commended acknowledgements making Ford by far the most successful brand in the 2013 What Van? Awards.”
Three different cab bodystyles are on offer 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains, two ride heights and four series choices. The exceptional towing capability is the biggest factor but this pick up also delivers some smart technologies including Adaptive Load Control, Trailer Sway Control, Voice Control and a rear view camera system. Power is provided by a choice of two fuel efficient Ford Duratorq TDCi diesels with fuel efficient six speed automatic and manual transmissions, the four wheel drive models are equipped with a well-proven electronically controlled transfer case that allows drivers to shift from 4x2 to 4x4 anytime via an electronic switch conveniently located on the console. When the going gets tough and extra torque or additional downhill braking is needed, low range gearing can also be enabled.
Ford have said the new Ranger has been tested in some of the most hostile environments under extreme temperatures and across harsh terrain, if this is the case this tough workhorse must be ready for whatever challenge it is set. It appears to be a great all rounder combining on road comfort and off road capability. A competitor would be the Volkswagen Amarok which has excellent fuel economy, VW’s standards of comfort, high safety standards and boasts the largest load dimensions in its class or maybe the Toyota Hilux which is attractively priced.
The Ford Ranger is the first vehicle in its class to achieve the five star Euro NCAP rating which includes everything from standard driver and passenger airbags, side and curtain airbags and a driver’s knee airbag to an advanced Electronic Stability Programme (ESP).
The new Ford Ranger is priced from approximately £15,599 and is on sale now, the Ranger Limited Double Cab 2.2 TDCi has a customer saving of approximately £1084.73 if you choose Contract Hire from Ford Lease, this works out at £298.96 +VAT per month which is the equivalent of just £68.99 + VAT per week.
