The Jaguar C-X16 Concept has been revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show. What can we say? This machine looks astonishing. It is a compact, rear-wheel-drive, two-door coupé constructed from super-strong aluminium. It has a lengthy bonnet, purposeful stance, and compact rear. No surprise this striking machine is billed by some as the new E-Type. That said, the C-X16 is Jaguar's statement of future intent rather than a near-production reality.Ian Callum, Director of Design, Jaguar Cars said: “Jaguars have always been dramatically different. With the C-X16 we have moved the current award-winning design language on to the next generation - creating a car that is the very essence of future Jaguar performance.” As such the Jaguar C-X16 Concept has some fascinating features. It has an F1-inspired hybrid boost system, for example. This collects energy from the brakes and stores it in batteries mounted behind the luxurious seats. Motorists then press the 'push to pass' button on the steering wheel to access a further 90ps. This complements the 3.0 V6 380ps petrol engine that helps propel this beauty to 62mph in 4.4 seconds. Top speed is 186mph. This hybrid vehicle is extremely fuel efficient for its class. It can travel at up to 50mph on electrical power alone - and its carbon emissions are only 165g/km. That is comparable to the entry-level Ford Mondeo 1.6 petrol. Whatever the Jaguar's statistics, let us hope this concept car becomes a production model. The queues at dealerships would be immense.
