On sale 19th July
A new Jeep Grand Cherokee will be on sale in the UK on 19th July, it boasts a brand new look on the outside and in with up to date technology and improved performance on road and off.
The new Jeep will be offered with the choice of two engines, three power outputs and six trim levels. No doubt the 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel will be the most popular choice; this engine produces a maximum power of 247bhp at 4000rpm while torque is a hefty 570Nm at 2000rpm. The powertrain is also offered in a low output version which delivers 188bhp at 4000rpm while torque stands at a very respectable 440Nm between 1600 and 2800rpm. Fuel consumption has been improved by ten per cent compared with the previous modes and co2 emissions have been reduced by nine percent and now stand at 198g/km. The other engine in the line-up is the fantastic 6.4-litre HEMI V8 that powers the high-performance SRT model, both engines are paired with an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission.
The smart new look includes bi-xenon headlamps with LED running lights, new wheels and new colour choices. The Jeep has a sportier and more elegant appearance but it is still a ‘Jeep’. There are different trim levels that have their own unique front and rear fascia which gives each its own identity.
The interior of the new Jeep boasts hand crafted materials including Natural Plus leather and open pore Zebrano wood trim. The new technology includes a new TFT ( thin film transistor) 7 inch configurable driver display in the instrument cluster and a new Uconnect display with an 8.4 inch touchscreen. The Smartouch satellite is standard in the Limited Plus, Overland, Summit and SRT models but can be specified in other models.
Off road technology includes Selec-Speed Control (available on certain models), this operates with the Hill Ascent Control and the Hill Descent control functions and allows the driver to control the speed of the vehicle both uphill and downhill using the steering wheel paddle shifters instead of the accelerator or brake pedals.
Safety features in the new 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee include seven airbags and the latest multi-stage airbags for the front seats that open with more or less force depending on the seriousness of the impact. In the roof lining above the side windows there are curtain airbags for occupants in the front and rear seats. Each has its own impact sensor for independent activation on the impact side. Side bags for the front seat occupants are mounted in the external edge of the seats. These have their own impact sensors for independent activation and are designed to reduce the injury to the pelvis and chest in side impacts.
If a new SUV is your next car then look at the new Jeep Grand Cherokee it offers a unique blend of capability and utility with impressive performance and a range of advanced technologies.
