New Mercedes-Benz A-Class Concept Revealed

Hello, hello. What is all this then? Looks like the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class concept. This striking machine immediately stands out from the crowd thanks to its stunning good looks. The low profile roof, long bonnet, sweeping lines, and aggressive stance make this vibrant beauty as attractive as a high-end model. In fact, the A-Class concept looks more like a Mini rival than a replacement to the current, family focussed, A-Class MPV.

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class concept will be revealed at the Shanghai Show, which opens its illustrious doors on April 19th. The pre-production display vehicle has a new 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 210PS. This complements the duel-clutch automatic transmission that should be smooth and responsive. Other engines, possibly including a 1.6-litre diesel, will join the line-up if the concept enters production.

Further features include the 'collision prevention assist' system. Oh, that sounds clever. This radar-based technology monitors the road ahead and alerts the driver, via visual and audio signals, to any potential rear-end collisions. Handy for those who fail to notice that the car ahead is stationary. The system also prepares the brake assist feature so that, if applied, the A-Class concept should slowdown with both precision and control. Good stuff.

The A-class concept car looks awful to me! The crease lines are too pronounced or showy. I like a bit of "understatement" in a design - smartness or elegance. Also, the side windows look very small.

Well, indeed that is a big jump away from the current model and philosophy. Sides look a bit like a Hyundai Scoupe of two or three models ago. I am not impressed, though a lifelong Merc driver.
