The Porsche Boxster could make your neighbour's green with envy from only £36,572.
The Porsche Boxster could make your neighbour's green with envy from only £36,572. That makes it the cheapest new Porsche on the market. After all, the Panamera starts at £62,783 and prices for the 911 range from £67,270 to £133,553. Ouch! Despite its frugality the Boxster is a proper Porsche. The handling is sharper than a needle, it looks more stylish than a supermodel, and – importantly – it takes-off like a possessed rocket.Let us open the bonnet then. Here we see the 2.9-litre flat-six engine. This produces 251bhp and 214lb ft of torque. Not much perhaps, but the Boxster's lightweight frame compensates. Power is sent to the rear wheels vis six-speed manual transmission, then this two-door convertible rockets to 62mph in only 5.9 seconds. This road legal racer is also capable of 163mph. Great fun, as is the fantastic sound burbling from the engine bay. There is only one reason not to buy the Porsche Boxster - its brother, the legendary 911. This is the Porsche most people crave. Shame it costs a fortune. Some motorists purchase the Boxter because it is the closest they can afford to the 911. Unfairly, the Boxster can be perceived as a 'make do' car. So, if you love the Boxster on its own terms – go for it. But if you secretly love another, best put the money towards a second-hand 911.
