The new Renault Twizzy is not a car.
The new Renault Twizzy is not a car. It is not a motorcycle either - or a bicycle, skateboard, aeroplane, or loaf of bread. It is, in fact, a 'heavy quadricycle'. The purpose of this battery-powered plaything is to be a cost-effective and environmentally friendly run- around. So, it has two seats, one electric motor, 17bhp, and a range of 'up to' sixty miles. Note, 'up to'. As with every electric vehicle its range can vary dramatically. The terrain, traffic, temperature, and the motorist's driving style play their parts. Furthermore, this 2.3 metre long urban workhorse is capable of 50mph – and it weighs a super-slim 450KG.Prices for the Renault Twizzy range from £6,690 to £7,400. There are three trims to choose from, the: Urban, Colour, and Technic. The base-spec has power steering and an immobiliser, and the mid-spec includes two-tone paint. The top-of-the-range Technic has alloy wheels and metallic paint too. All share the same battery pack which is 'hired' from the French manufacturer. Expect to pay £40 per-month for three years, with a mileage limitation of 4,500 per-annum. Batteries can be charged from a standard domestic plug. Their re-charge time is three and a half hours. See, told you the Twizzy is not a loaf bread.
