New Toyota Avensis on sale 1st April
The Toyota Avensis range of saloons and tourer estate cars have received a refreshed look for 2013 and this new line up will officially be on sale 1st April.
As with the Toyota Auris and Verso, the Avensis now adopts the same grade structure with Acitve Icon, Icon Plus and Excel replacing the previous T2, TR, T4 and T Spirit designations. There have been some upgrades to specifications including follow me home headlights as standard across the range. Other upgrades include the DAB digital tuner and for the Excel versions there is the addition of a new brushed silver finish for the centre console. There are ten exterior colours offered including Pearl White pearlescent for the first time.
The updated Toyota Avensis range continues to offer a wide selection of efficient powertrains, with 1.8 Valvematic petrol engines and 2.0, 2.2 and 2.2 D-CAT diesels. According to engine, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions and Toyota’s Multidrive S CVT are available.
The new Toyota Avensis Excel has been brought right up to date with LED daytime running lights; other features include 18” alloys and black leather upholstery, rear parking sensors and Toyota’s Touch and Go Plus.
Toyota’s Touch and Go Plus
Touch and Go Plus is designed for quick and easy use with advanced voice recognition system for inputting navigation addresses. Email can be sent and received and for convenience on the move there is a text to speech message function and a phonebook search and call facility. The more sophisticated satellite navigation mapping incorporates 3D city modelling and landmarks, and an additional Traffic Patterns database which shows the average speed on sections of a programmed route, according to the time, day and month.
Toyota have recently started production of the new Toyota Auris and Auris Touring Sport, they are being built at Toyota’s Burnaston factory alongside the Avensis and the Avensis Tourer. The Auris Touring Sports is the first model in its class to offer the choice of a full hybrid powertrain; the Hybrid is priced from £21,095 with co2 emissions at just 85g/km. The full line-up is named after the Auris hatchback range; Active, Icon, Sport and Excel and is also built alongside the Auris and Avensis models at the Toyota factory.
Toyota recently celebrated twenty years of manufacturing in the UK and Toyota’s £185 million investment is good news for the UK supply chain which also helps to improve skills and training. Eight hundred workers have already been recruited and offered Toyota production apprenticeships.
