Fancy an outdoor adventure? Great, the new Volkswagen California Berghaus special edition would love to join you. This spacious camper seats – and of course sleeps – four people in comfort. Features include the: electrically operated pop-up roof, kitchen with fridge and cooker, plus the fold-away table and chairs. These are complemented by the Berghaus Pack that includes: two Flare sleeping bags, a rucksack, gloves, hats, insulated mugs, a water bottle, flask, and map case. Never seen that lot offered on the Volkswagen Polo. Keeping these features - and of course the occupants - intact is a series of reassuring gadgets. These include: traction control, anti-lock brakes, engine braking control, and the electronic stabilisation programme. Very nice, as it should be for £47,995.The Volkswagen California Berghaus is powered by a 2.0-litre BiTDI diesel engine. This sends its 180ps through six-speed manual transmission, which then helps propel this camping maestro to 62mph in only 12.4 seconds. That is reasonable performance for a low-value car, and excellent for a hotel on wheels. This temporary home is also surprisingly economical. It averages 36.2mpg and its emissions are only 205g/km. As such, the Volkswagen California is more economical than some fairly new cars with similar performance. It also benefits from VW's rock-solid construction, so there is little risk of it breaking-down in the middle of a wind swept field. Sounds like fun, sign me up.
