The new Volkswagen Up! is finally here.
The new Volkswagen Up! is finally here. Yes, it really is called the Up! This city car has three doors, four seats, and three standard trim levels. The entry-level Take Up! has: body-coloured bumpers, daytime running lights, plus front and side air-bags. This 'distinctively' named workhorse costs £7,995. The mid-spec Move Up! also has: air- con, electric front windows, easy-entry seats, and body-coloured wing mirrors. Prices for this run-around start at £8,970. The top-of-the-range High Up! features: heated seats, a leather steering wheel, front fog lights, and fifteen-inch alloys. Nice specification for only £10,390. Finally, Volkswagen has screwed together the special edition Up! Black and Up! White trims that have metallic paint and chrome. This compact cruiser costs from £11,180.The Volkswagen Up! is available with two, 1.0-litre petrol, engines with outputs of 60 and 75ps. These are only teamed with five-speed manual transmission, so this is not the car for lovers of automatics. These power plants average 62.7 and 60.1mpg respectively, but there is a super-efficient BlueMotion variant too. This is based on the Move Up! and – subject to final confirmation - returns 67.2mpg. This means its carbon emissions are down (not up) so this environmental warrior can be taxed for free. Throw-in VW's robust build and this city car makes perfect sense. Can hardly wait for the new Volkswagen Sideways.
