Nissan breaks sales record thanks to popular cars such as the Qashqai, LEAF and Juke.
Nissan Strengthens Its Position In UK Market
Nissan broke its sales record for the first half of a year in 2015 proving it is increasingly popular in the United Kingdom. The company sold 88,657 passenger cars – compared to 77,112 in the equivalent part of 2014 - which represented a rise of 15%. Market share was 5.7%. In June 2015 alone, 16,697 cars found homes compared to 14,729 in 2014 (+15.6%). Car market share was 6.1% which was the highest in the manufacturer's history (for a June). Total market share including cars and light commercial vehicles rose 0.4% in the first half of 2015, to 5.7%. This – the manufacturer claimed – makes it “the fastest growing top 10 brand”.
Nissan Qashqai UK Sales
The Nissan Qashqai was the manufacturer's big seller. 34,501 found homes compared to 26,190 in the first 6 months of the previous year. The Qashqai is a crossover class vehicle that merges “off-road and traditional hatchback design”, the manufacturer claims. Some versions, therefore, have 4-wheel-drive for light off-road challenges and to make driving safer in the snow, rain and ice. The Qashqai also has 5 seats and a spacious 430-litre boot. Folding the rear bench flat increases cargo capacity to 1,585-litres which is comparable to an estate. The top-spec TEKNA trim has a panoramic roof, rear privacy glass and leather seating.
Nissan LEAF UK Sales
The Nissan LEAF is a fully electric, family-size, hatchback that has 5 doors and a respectable 370-litre cargo capacity. The manufacturer sold 2,964 in the first half of 2015. 1,760 found homes from January to June 2014. The LEAF's maximum range is 124 miles (depending on the conditions and the motorist's driving style). It can be charged from home via a 6 metre cable and a standard socket in about 12 hours. Alternatives include a special home charger that requires 8 hours and a public charger found (say) in a service station car park. Expect an 80% charge in approximately 30 minutes. The top-spec TEKNA trim has a camera mounted to each side to make parking easy, plus heated front seats.
Nissan Juke UK Sales
The Nissan Juke sold well too. 21,128 were registered in the first 6 months of 2015 compared to 19,355 in 2014 (first half only). The Juke provides “style and thrilling performance on city streets”, Nissan says. It is a fashion-focussed lifestyle statement that – unlike most competitors – looks unique. A highlight of the range is the RS DIG-T 214 M-Xtronic. This sporty trim produces 214hp, hits 62mph in 8 seconds and sits on beefed-up suspension to optimise the handling. It also has much more muscular styling than its siblings.
