Nissan Qashqai Named the Best British Built Car
More accolades for the top-selling Qashqai
It’s getting a bit repetitive now, isn’t it? The Nissan Qashqai just seems to take every single bit of attention in the Crossover market. In fact, the Qashqai is now as good as the cover model for the Crossover segment. What is interesting is that it has just got even better.
The Nissan Qashqai is now on sale with two brand new petrol engines. Both are 1.3-litre units with one putting out 140 PS and the other putting out 160 PS and they can both be paired with a brand new Dual Clutch Transmission. This is the first mainstream car Nissan have ever produced with a DCT and it promises to offer the smoothest of gear changes and boost the sporty character of the Qashqai’s driving dynamics.
The new Dual Clutch gearbox will allow a more efficient drive in terms of CO2 emitted but also in terms of achievable miles per gallon. The most noticeable change will be the improvements in acceleration and response which should be more progressive and linear.
The final new update is to the infotainment system. Nissan will now provide a new Nissan Connect infotainment system with the Qashqai. This all-new hardware should provide a level of smartphone connectivity and integration that Nissan is calling ‘seamless and intuitive.’ Apple Car Play and Android Auto will be provided as a standard feature on all spec levels excluding Visia.
Nissan Connect will also feature TomToms latest Premium Traffic software, which is TomTom’s best performing technology in terms of real-time traffic detection and avoidance.
All of this comes just as the Qashqai wins an award for the Best British Built Car at the inaugural News UK Motor Awards 2018. Special recognition was given to the ongoing contributions the Qashqai has made to the success of British manufacturing since it’s inception all the way back in 2007. Since the release of the Qashqai 11 years ago there has been over 3 million Qashqais produced at the Sunderland plant and the second generation was the fastest British-built car to exceed half a million units built, taking just 21 months.
The managing director at Nissan Motor GB, Alex Smith, said: “The Qashqai is the original crossover, inventing the segment as we know it, and is the most successful model in Europe in Nissan’s history. The fact that Qashqai is designed, engineered and made in the UK is something we are immensely proud of. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the News UK judges for recognising Qashqai with this outstanding award.”
The Awards are voted for by the general public as well as a panel of critics from The Times, The Sunday Times, The Sun and talkSPORT.
The Qashqai is now available equipped with the new 1.3-litre DIG-T engine from just £19,595.
