Ford Fiesta is Europe’s top selling small car of 2012
The Ford Fiesta has held the title of the overall UK best seller since 2009 so it is not a surprise to hear that the Ford Fiesta is Europe’s top selling small car of 2012 with one purchased on average every two minutes. Figures released show that Ford sold 953,174 cars last year in the thirty European markets monitored by Jato, this figure included 306,405 Fiestas. Fiestas sold in the UK alone were a massive 110,000.
Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service, Ford of Europe said “the Fiesta had a fantastic 2012 in the UK, Europe and across the world, this iconic car has come to define what customers desire from a small car style, quality, efficiency and great technology.
The new Ford Fiesta is currently being launched in Europe and if you want to keep outgoings to a minimum then opt for the 1.0 litre EcoBoost petrol engine, or there is an ECOnetic technology version which is powered by a 1.6 litre Duratorq TDCi diesel engine, this has co2 emissions of only 87g/km. Fuel efficiency is at the forefront of every motorists mind so it is no wonder the Fiesta is such a sales success. Ford has also introduced MyKey a new technology that allows parents to encourage safer driving at the wheel. Keys may be configured with a variety of settings and feature Speed Control which gives the owner the ability to limit the top speed to 80 mph. Plus the Fiesta is equipped with Ford SYNC which is a voice activated in-car connectivity system and SYNC Emergency Assistance which directly connects vehicle occupants to local emergency services in the event of an accident. Plus in addition the Fiesta has Active City Stop which helps avoid or mitigate low speed collisions.
The Vice President at Ford also added “the new Fiesta has some big shoes to fill in 2013 but is perfectly equipped to do so, being acclaimed as Europe’s best-loved small car in 2012 is a great achievement and we thank all of our customers who continue to put their faith in the Fiesta.”
There is no doubt that the Ford Fiesta will continue in its top spot due to Fords continuous updating and the competitive price from just £9795 on the road.
Motoring.co.uk comments that the Ford brand has surpassed itself over the last few years, and its ground breaking design and technology is leaving its competitors behind.
It's fair to say that Vauxhall has some work to do in order to catch up and Ford now consider their brand on par with the likes of Volkswagen and Toyota, and who are we to argue when they seem to just go from strength to strength.
