Volkswagen retailers have opened the order books ahead of the launch of the new Sharan that is set come out in November.
The new model will come with a choice of four trim levels; the S, SE, SEL and Executive. All of these models will come with seven seats as standard except for the Executive which will be the home to six individual seats with armrests and ‘Vienna’ leather.
The Sharan will also feature the new EasyFold concept which allows the individual seats of the second and third rows to be folded away into the floor to make more space. This is done by using the folding mechanism rather than having to remove the seats from the vehicle when not needed.
The new model will also be the home to a range of standard equipment which includes ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) and ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme), a curtain airbag system for all three rows of seats, side airbags for the first two rows of seats and driver and passenger airbags as well. On top of that, there is another airbag that will protect the driver’s knees in the event of an accident. An eight-speaker DAB digital radio, 2Zone electronic climate control and an iPod interface will also be standard on the Sharan.
There is a real focus on practicality with the Sharan that comes without the loss of any dynamic stability. It can be specified with Adaptive Chassis Control (ACC) for the first time, allowing the driver to choose from three damper settings, these being Comfort, Normal and Sport.
In additional to all of the features listed so far, the Sharan is also available with the second generation Park Assist system. This will allow the driver to set back and relax whilst the car parks itself in spaces end-on as well as parallel spaces, while all the driver has to do is control the pedals… Genius.
The Sharan will come with a great range of TSI and TDI diesel engines, which in the most part are fitted with BlueMotion and Stop/Start technology as well as battery regeneration systems to further economy and lower emissions.
Prices for the Sharan will start at £22,980 for the entry-level S 1.4 TSI model.
