New Renault Captur 1.5 dCi 110
The Renault Captur is now available with a new, more powerful, diesel engine. Its purpose is to make this crossover class vehicle - that has 5 seats, 5 doors and a large 455-litre boot – more responsive when it has to accelerate hard to (say) join a motorway.
The engine is a 1.5-litre that produces 110hp at 4,000rpm and 260Nm of torque at 1,750rpm. In comparison to the smaller diesel engine that has been available since launch, it has a further 20hp / 40Nm.
The 1.5-litre diesel can be teamed with 3 trim levels. The Dynamique and Dynamique S hit 62mph in 11 seconds and average 76.4mpg. Emissions are 98g/km which is low, so – as the cost of road tax is based on carbon emissions – can be taxed for free.
The Signature trim also hits 62mph in 11 seconds. However, it is slightly less fuel efficient than its siblings as it sports mud/snow tyres. It averages 72.4mpg and carbon emissions are 101g/km. The latter puts it in a low, but chargeable, tax bracket.
New Engine Could Boost Sales
Renault expects its new diesel engine to increase the Captur's popularity – even though it was the best seller in its class in Europe in 2014. 165,130 found homes, including 20,466 in the UK where it was the brand's second most popular car behind the Clio.

The Dynamique trim has a start/stop system. Its purpose is to automatically switch-off the engine while the vehicle is stationary, perhaps at a red traffic light. It then automatically restarts as the motorist presses the clutch to engage first gear.
Start/stop complements MediaNav that incorporates a 7” touchscreen, satellite navigation and multimedia connectivity. The Dynamic also has 17-inch alloys, plus climate control that regulates the heater and air-con to maintain a driver defined temperature in the cabin.
The Dynamique S adds: rear parking sensors, 17-inch two-tone alloy wheels and electric folding wing mirrors. Finally, the Signature trim has: a superior satellite navigation system, traction control, uprated stereo, colour rear parking camera and leather upholstery.
