Skoda and Volkswagen are celebrating twenty years of successful partnership. Yes, almost unbelievably, two decades have now passed since the state owed Czech car company climbed into bed with its illustrious German neighbour. Good thing too. Skoda now produce excellent vehicles that are reliable, good to drive, and easy to live with. This is a far cry from when Skoda was on the rough end of every motoring related joke. Best not list them now. This momentous occasion was marked by a ceremony in Mladá Boleslav, which I think is near junction twelve of the M3. It was attended by numerous high-ranking folk, including Czech president Václav Klaus and the president of the Senate of the Czech Parliament Milan Štěch. Volkswagen was represented by several board members, including CEO Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn. Tragically, my invitation must have been lost in the post. In stark contrast to Skoda's tricky past 2010 was extremely successful. New registrations reached over 41,000, which is a 10.5% increase compared to the previous year. It also received twenty-five awards, including Best Manufacturer in the What Car? Reader Awards 2010. Skoda has also been in the top ten of the JD Power Survey of Customer Satisfaction for seventeen years. Must be doing something right. Roll on the next two decades.
