The popular small SUV the Skoda Yeti has scooped two awards from the off roader magazine Total 4x4. This is the third year running the Yeti has received top honours. In 2011 the Yeti won the ‘Crossover’ category and took the ‘4x4 of the Year’ title and then in 2012 it came top in the same category and received ‘Special Award for Best Value’. Starting this year the Yeti has made it second year in a row for ‘Special Award for Best Value’ which is an impressive record in these honours.
Total 4x4 Editor Alan Kidd said “by changing the categories the SkodaYeti found itself up against a whole new group of competitors. It took them all on and came out top, displaying the same qualities that have been winning it awards since it was launched. In the past year more than most, we have seen more vehicles coming into the market that represent outstanding value for money. But in terms of how good it is, how well made it is and what it offers, the Skoda Yeti is still untouchable.”
Alasdair Stewart, Brand Director for Skoda UK said “it’s always great to start the New Year with an award and for the Skoda Yeti now in its fourth calendar year on sale to win two from Total 4x4 magazine shows what an exceptional car it is. Striking the perfect balance between on-road performance, family orientated practicality and highly capable off-roader, sales of Yeti in the UK have continued to grow year-on-year.”
If you are looking to buy a new small SUV then the Yeti may be the one for you, this car boasts a unique blend of practicality and versatility both on and off-road. Value for money is what most of us are looking for these days and the Yeti does provide that. It is offered with a choice of two petrol and three diesel engines, either front wheel drive or four wheel drive. Diesel buyers will probably opt for the 103bhp 1.6 TDI for its adequate performance and low emissions, but there’s also a 108bhp 2.0 TDI available. Fuel economy is usually top of everybody’s list due to the price at the pumps and fuel economy is impressive for most models, the 1.2 TSI stands out as it returns 44.1mpg but then there is also the 1.6 TDI Greenline II diesel which returns 61.4mpg.
The interior of the Yeti is extremely spacious, room just about everywhere and the boot is very big, the rear seats can be folded down, laid forward or taken out altogether, there are so many options. Standard specification is generous too; the entry level includes air-conditioning, remote locking, electric front windows and a CD player, while S models add alloy wheels, front foglights and powered rear windows.
Prices for the Yeti start from £13,829 and rise to £21,984, it is a stylish and practical alternative to the traditional family hatchback and most definitely value for money.
