Roadside checks being carried out on vehicles with tinted windows
There was a crackdown on tinted car windows in the Teesside area back in September. It seems that roadside checks have now started in the Manchester area.
It was reported that a driver from Cheshire was stopped in her Range Rover on the Princess Parkway Manchester for having rear blacked out windows. A light meter check was carried out and the driver was fined £30 on the spot. The driver was allowed to continue driving but in some cases the unfit car can be towed away until the necessary adjustments have been made.
Windscreens must let in 75% light and side windows 70%. It is believed that drivers do not realise their vision is significantly impaired by tinted glass.
