In 2010 the Land Rover Discovery was voted best tow car in the 2010 Tow Car Awards. The 3.0-litre diesel’s more advanced technology helps it eclipse the economy and emissions to the 2.7-litre engine when it’s fitted with the automatic gearbox. It returns around 30mpg on the combined cycle and emissions of 244g/km.
The Kia Sorento was awarded ‘Best Towcar’ at Caravan Times Readers Poll 2010. The Kia Sorento comes with a new 2.2 litre diesel engine and six speed auto gearbox options. Expect around 43mpg on the combined cycle and 171 and 174g/km of CO2 depending on your choice between two or four wheel drive. The Kia Sorento is offered with a choice of a five or seven seater layout with a spacious and a well equipped cabin.
The Skoda Octavia Estate 1.6 Greenline is yet another option thanks to its low fuel consumption of 64.2mpg, CO2 emissions of 114g/km and plenty of interior space.
The best value 4×4 is probably the Hyundai Santa Fe. The Hyundai Santa Fe is a good towcar after just a few miles, but it’s easy to miss just how good until you consider the price. Costing just over £21,000 the big Hyundai is one of the best value cars in this year’s tests.
