First rear-seat centre air bag to reduce severity of side on collisions
Toyota has developed a rear seat airbag which will help reduce the severity of passenger injuries in side on collisions. The rear-seat centre airbag will be fitted in a large fixed console and will feature in Toyota models released in the near future.
It is designed to deploy when the car is involved in a side on collision and aims to cut injury rates by restricting collisions between passengers. It should also stop passengers from colliding with the console itself and comes as part of Toyota's ongoing efforts to improve driver and passenger safety.
Toyota intends to further strengthen its traffic safety initiatives in the future by developing safer vehicles and technologies, participating in the creation of safe traffic environments and implementing traffic safety education activities.
