Vauxhall Ampera ‘favourite Hybrid’ for Telegraph readers

Vauxhall Ampera has more votes than the Leaf and Toyota Prius

The Vauxhall Ampera Hybrid beat off rivals including the Nissan Leaf and the Toyota Prius Plug-In at the Telegraph Motoring Awards to be voted the readers ‘favourite Hybrid’. Leo Wilkinson, Acting Assistant Motoring Content Editor said “we had a great response to our Car of the Year awards and Telegraph readers voted for the Vauxhall Ampera as their favourite hybrid/electric car, it's a revolutionary car and our readers clearly value that."

The Vauxhall Ampera arrived in showrooms last year; it is priced very competitively at £29,995 which includes the £5000 Government grant for the Earth model. . The Ampera Earth is the entry level model in Vauxhalls E-REV line-up which also includes Positiv and Electron trims. The Vauxhall Ampera Earth is generously equipped with standard features such as DAB, 7-inch touch screen display and Bluetooth. The Positiv trim adds leather seats, front heated seats and leather steering wheel plus front and rear park assist including rear view camera and the Electron has a navigation 7” colour touch screen and Bose System with six speakers and sub-woofer.

The Vauxhall Ampera has a real-world battery range of between twenty five to fifty miles, providing the battery is charged overnight, there is every chance you could go for months without having to visit the pumps. This range is ample for the average daily UK commute which research shows is less than thirty miles. For longer journeys electricity is produced via an on-board range extender/generator which seamlessly powers the car for a further three hundred miles. At all times, the Ampera’s wheels are electrically driven, setting it apart from conventional hybrid vehicles. If you opt for the Positiv and Electon trims then private buyers will be entitled to three years or 60,000 miles free servicing and a £2,000 fuel contribution, enough to cover both electric and petrol costs for three years for an average Ampera driver. Other benefits include a Type-2 charging cable which will enable customers to charge their Ampera at the vast majority of public charging points and a £335 (VAT inclusive) allowance equivalent to the 25 per cent funding gap on domestic home charging installations announced after last month’s Budget

Test Drive the Vauxhall Ampera

Some of us are still quite nervous of the Hybrid cars and a half hour test drive is not going to boost your confidence so Vauxhall offer the Ampera on a 3-day Test Drive programme, this way customers can test a Vauxhall for three days without paying a penny more than the fuel used. But more important it gives you the experience of driving a Hybrid and if it would work for you. Plus Vauxhall also provide an industry first Lifetime Warranty and Ampera’s eight year/ 100,000 mile battery warranty.
