Vauxhall Reveal the Seventh Generation Astra

The latest adaptation of one of Britains best selling and most loved cars

Production Later this Year 

The seventh generation Vauxhall Astra has been revealed but it will be unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September and will go into production later this year.  The Astra is one of the UK’s best loved and top selling cars, over 2.9 million have been sold in the UK over the last three decades with over 50,000 sold last year. The new model will be lighter than its predecessor and the new design gives the Astra a sleek and athletic appearance. The interior has a clean look and includes a large colour touchscreen and a reduced amount of control switches and buttons to complete the contemporary feel.

New 1.4 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo

The new Astra boasts the all new 1.4 litre ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo four cylinder engine. This engine is from the similar to the one litre three cylinder engine available in the Vauxhall Corsa, Vauxhall ADAM and the Vauxhall VIVA. The engine block weighs in at 10kg less that the cast iron block of the current 1.4 turbo which also means this new model weighs less, overall it weighs nearly 220kg lighter than the outgoing model.  There is also a base level 1.0 ECOTEC Diesel Injection Turbo petrol engine offered and a 1.6 CDTi ‘Whisper Diesel’ range with the new Astra.

Vauxhall ‘OnStar’

The seventh generation Astra is the first new Vauxhall model that will be available with the personal connectivity and service assistant ‘OnStar’ from its launch. ‘OnStar’ is a new service that offers help especially in emergency situations. In the eventuality of an airbag being deployed then  ‘OnStar’ will automatically be alerted, an advisor contacts the vehicle to see if help is needed. If there is no response then emergency responders are immediately sent to the exact location. ‘OnStar’ is available 365 days of the year for roadside assistance or any other service it also turns the new Astra into a 4G LTE mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. 

High standard of technology and specification

As well as ‘OnStar’ the Astra also features the next generation Intellilink plus other technology that includes helpful aids such as traffic sign assistant, lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision alert together with collision imminent braking, cruise control with speed limiter and advanced park assist. The Rear view camera which has become a favourite with motorists is also included together with side blind spot alert. The high standard of specification is everything you need to make driving and parking a walk in the park!
