Volkswagen Scirocco hits the 100,000th mark
Two years after its market launch, the 100,000 third generation Volkswagen Scirocco rolled off the production line
Two years after its market launch, the 100,000 third generation Volkswagen Scirocco rolled off the production line in Portugal last week.
The latest Volkswagen Scirocco is based on the current Volkswagen GTi but it is lower, wider and lighter. It is a good looking car which benefits access to great engines and is solidly built. With an attractive design and sporty appearance the Volkswagen Scirocco claimed the 2008 AutoBILD Design Award and was named Car of the Year by Top Gear magazine.
The range of powerful yet efficient engines is most impressive. The 2.0 litre TSI four cylinder engine seems to be the most popular with a choice of six speed manual or six speed DSG gearboxes. Another option is the 1.4-litre TSI 160PS petrol version or a 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel model with either 140 or 170PS and a combined economy of around 52 mpg. The Volkswagen Scirocco offers a choice of two trim levels standard and GT.
The celebrated 100,000th model is a Volkswagen Scirocco 2.0 litre TSI in Rising Blue Metallic with a Titan Black interior, radio navigation system, park pilot and a tilting sunroof.
All Volkswagen Scirocco models feature advanced adaptive chassis control offering three driver-selected settings comfort, normal and sport. The system’s influence extends to the steering system: should ‘sport’ be selected, the steering firms up to provide more feel while ‘comfort’ mode makes the steering lighter and easier to operate at low speeds or around town.
