Volkswagen announce Tiguan compact 4x4 for February 2008 launch
Volkswagen have announced details of their Tiguan, the new compact 4x4 which hits showrooms in February.
The vehicle will make its world public debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September following its concept appearance at the Los Angeles Motor Show last year. Slightly larger than the Touran compact MPV, the Tiguan is 4.4m in length, 1.8m wide and 1.6m in height. It has a purposeful appearance which reinforces its strong links to its Touareg sibling, with raised suspension, large tyres and true 4x4 styling cues.
In the UK, the Tiguan will initially be available with two engines - a two-litre 138bhp TDI diesel and a 1.4-litre 148bhp TSI petrol unit. Later next year, a 168bhp TDI and two further petrol engines will become available to order. Both diesel engines meet the stringent Euro 5 emissions standard which comes into effect in 2009.
The Tiguan will be offered in three trim levels - S, SE and Sport - at launch, all with 4MOTION four-wheel drive.
UK pricing is expected to start at around £19,000, with dealers due to start taking orders for the newcomer in November.
