The new Volkswagen up! has been honoured at the 2012 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show.
Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG said “this award shows once again that in the up! our designers and engineers have created a vehicle that has been thought through in minute detail. A vehicle that sets standards in its class for efficient use of space, safety, motoring fun and environmental compatibility.”
The new Volkswagen city car has won numerous accolades since its launch in late 2011, winning special praise for its combination of small footprint, big interior space and innovative City Emergency Braking system.
The Volkswagen up! is available with two 1.0 litre three cylinder petrol engine options as well as a BlueMotion technology version. It has three doors and three trim levels. Standard specification for the entry level Take up! includes body-coloured bumpers, daytime running lights, front and side head/thorax airbags, the new RCD 215 CD radio with aux-in, rear ISOFIX points, and 14-inch steel wheels.
