Well well... the Volkswagen up! has been crowned the 2012 World Car of the Year. This prestigious award recognises the year's most outstanding vehicles based on “merit, value, safety, environmental impact, significance, and emotional appeal”. It was judged by sixty- six top journalists, and this city car overcame competition from thirty-three other vehicles.Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG, said: “This award shows once again that in the up! our designers and engineers have created a vehicle that has been thought through in minute detail. A vehicle that sets standards in its class for efficient use of space, safety, motoring fun and environmental compatibility.” This award might encourage fleet managers to test drive the up! Those who take the plunge will immediately discover that VW thinks outside the box. In fact, every manager receives a small book. But why? Volkswagen has travelled three-thousand miles to find eighteen of the 'thinnest' roads in the UK. These, they hint, are areas only up! drivers 'really appreciate' thanks to its pint-sized proportions. As such, the manufacturer encourages managers to enter the GPS coordinates of these roads into the up!'s sat-nav and explore. What else could they want from the 2012 World Car of the Year?
