Lexus RX 450h
Introduced in 2013 - The Lexus RX 450h has proven to be a class-leading 4x4 hybrid. The pro’s are countless. The level of spec is simply unparalleled, with leather upholstery, bluetooth phone connection, push-to-start and a proximity key as standard from entry level. The RX can also operate in electric-only mode with a range of 1.6 miles - which may not sound like much but it works at low speed and recharges itself. Gridlocked motorways and city centres wont even sip on your precious fuel tank. The same electric motor also assists the 3.5 V6 in achieving a solid 44.8mpg - which is better than any VW Touareg, BMW X5, Audi Q7 or Land Rover Discovery 4 can achieve. It is also cheaper to tax than all the aforementioned vehicles.
Con’s? Well there are very few to be honest. The CVT gearbox takes a little while to adjust to, especially combined with the electric motor at slow speeds. That’s a subjective issue in all honesty. Also, the starting price of £44,495 is steep compared to the prices of the RX’s competitors. Although, you won’t be shelling out for the extras that Lexus include for free, like the full-leather etc. and you will also make a saving on road tax and fuel throughout your ownership.
The spec-level itself sells this Lexus, the interior is by far the most luxury for your money in the 4x4 market today. One to consider perhaps?
