The Best Selling Cars of the Year so Far
See which cars are the most popular in 2019
Ford continues to lead the way following with Volkswagen in the best selling cars in the UK charts. The SMMT figures showing year-to-date car sales have been released and the market was down slightly on last year by 3.1% year-to-date. Including the new 19 plate cars hitting the roads since the 1st of March, and over the first five months of 2019 there is still a huge 1,045.824 people driving brand new cars.
Let’s see who’s been buying what. This is the leaderboard of cars sold so far in 2019, in ascending order...
MINI - 15,502 cars sold
The MINI is a timeless, stylish icon, that handles like a go-kart and offers exceptional driver satisfaction as well as good running costs. The MINI really is a great car to drive.
Prices start from £16,195
Kia Sportage - 15,893 cars sold
Making its way back into the top ten best sellers is Kia's popular SUV. The Sportage is now in its fourth generation and continues to be Kia’s best-selling car in Europe. The Sportage comes with great styling and is packed with technology, making it a good, affordable choice for SUV buyers.
Prices start from £20,670
Ford Kuga - 16,724 cars sold
The fact that an SUV like the Ford Kuga is outselling the likes of a popular Mercedes car model speaks volumes about just how much the market has changed. It makes sense though, where the Mondeo would previously have featured in this list, buyers have switched to bigger, more refined and safer cars like the Kuga, which is certainly one of the best in its class.
Prices start from £23,375 with 0% APR offers available.
Volkswagen Polo - 19,013 cars sold
Now in its sixth generation, the new Polo is flying off the shelves. VW's successful small hatchback is a great all rounder.
Prices start from £15,735
Nissan Qashqai - 23,847 cars sold
The facelifted version now has high-quality leather splashed all over the interior, and the dashboard and steering wheel now look like they come from a vehicle in the class above. The fact that the Qashqai continues to be the UK's best selling SUV, speaks volumes about just how good this model is.
Prices start from £19,995
Mercedes-Benz A-Class - 23,951 cars sold
Who’d have thought the Mercedes A-Class, Mercedes’ first-ever hatchback, would feature so consistently in the top 10 best selling cars in the UK. It has sold so well for a combination of reasons. Firstly, it is available on very reasonable finance and leasing deals, and secondly, it is favoured highly buy company car owners and fleet managers.
Prices start from £23,080
Vauxhall Corsa - 24,368 cars sold
Vauxhall will be happier with this ranking. It’s now moved up to the 2nd best selling car in the UK in 2019, the Corsa is accustomed to being high up on the leaderboard and much closer to its main rival, the Fiesta.
Prices start from £11,735
Volkswagen Golf - 26,020 cars sold
The Golf is such a popular car that sells, sells and sells, and it has done so consistently since it was first introduced back in 1974. Watch this space for news on the new Golf MK8 which is due out later this year.
Prices start from £20,945
Ford Focus - 26,789 cars sold
Another unsurprising feature in this list. The new Focus continues the solid sales performance of the last one, and when the range is largely powered by modern Ecoboost petrol engines, this is a car which is comfortably withstanding the changing of the market.
Prices start from £18,305
Ford Fiesta - 35,790 cars sold
You probably could have guessed that this was going to be top of the list. It’s been the best selling car in the country for quite some time now. The new Fiesta is the best looking and most well-rounded model they’ve ever put on the market and the EcoBoost engines are just too good for most manufacturers to compete with.
