2006 Beaujolais Run by Jason Dawe

This week Jason talks about the 2006 Beaujolais Run Charity event

On November 14th, together with my co-presenter from the Used Car Roadshow, Penny Mallory, I shall be taking part in the 2006 Beaujolais Run. This is my third year taking part, but Penny’s first. We will be driving a Jaguar XKR, kindly donated by Jaguar Cars, through France to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and the Downs Syndrome Association (DSA).

Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the world’s leading hospitals, treating 100,000 children each year. The DSA is the only charity in the UK focusing solely on all aspects of living successfully with Down’s syndrome. It also seeks to improve knowledge and understanding of the condition and champion the rights of people with Down’s syndrome.

Thirty teams are taking part in this year’s event, which starts at Goodwood with Formula One ace Damon Hill waving us off on the way to the Channel tunnel.

The main part of the challenge is not about speed but navigation, as we are directed to an undisclosed location in France. The team using the shortest route wins. Last year I managed to travel almost 800 miles on a 550 mile course!

This is all for a very worthy cause, so please show just how generous readers of the newsletter and website can be and donate some money. You can choose to donate to either or both of the charities by clicking on the following links – Great Ormond Street or the Downs Syndrome Association. Why not donate to both?

Help us reach our £5,000 target – it may not sound a lot but it can make a world of difference. Be quick, and if you are generous enough to donate more than £100, your company name and logo can travel on the XKR with us on the 2006 Beaujolais Run. If past experience is anything to go by, it might end up being displayed on more than 800 miles of French roads!

Take care and happy motoring!

Jason
