F1 GP British Race Result

British Race Dominated by Tyre Problems

With Lewis Hamilton on pole at his home race he made the perfect start to stay ahead of his rivals. Another driver to make a great start from the line was Felipe Massa, the Ferrari driver getting up to 5th by the end of the first lap. A casualty from the opening lap was Mark Webber who had a collision with Romain Grosjean that dropped him down to 15th.

By lap 7, Hamilton had a 2 second lead over second placed Sebastian Vettel but a lap later disaster struck and he had a rear puncture which caused him to limp back to the pits. The same happened for Felipe Massa on lap 11 and he also had to pit as teams worried about debris on the track.

Going down Hangar Straight, Jean-Eric Vergne was the next driver to have a rear puncture which eventually brought out the safety car.

With laps under the safety car to clear debris off the track, the race got back underway on lap 22.

Vettel was leading ahead of Nico Rosberg and Adrian Sutil, as Webber fought back from his first lap collision to 8th after overtaking the McLaren of Sergio Perez.

Daniel Ricciardo was having a good race in his Toro Rosso. After qualifying in the top ten, just over halfway through the race and he was in 4th.

A good battle took place between Fernando Alonso and Kimi Raikkonen for 5th, while Webber continued to move up through the grid. Hamilton and Di Resta enjoyed a good fight for 11th but it was on lap 42 when more drama took place.

Vettel lost the lead as his car had a gearbox failure and retired for the first time this season. Stopping on the start/finish straight out came the safety car as Rosberg took the lead.

By lap 46 the drivers were racing again but Sergio Perez then had a deflated tyre, his second of the weekend. With 6 laps remaining Rosberg was ahead as Webber battled for a podium place. What looked like a disappointing race at the start, a good battle with Raikkonen put the Australian into 2nd and chasing down Rosberg. Hamilton had also climbed back up and with 2 laps to go was in 5th behind Raikkonen and Alonso.

Nico Rosberg took his second win of the season as Mark Webber made an outstanding comeback to take second. Fernando Alonso took the final step on the podium.
