F1 GP Hungary Qualifying Result

After a summer break, the Formula 1 circus returned to the track in Hungary.

Valtteri Bottas in the Williams was topping the times halfway through the first qualifying session but the top drivers were still to get out on track and do their first laps.

Fernando Alonso was one of the first frontrunners to set a time, but Romain Grosjean then pipped him in the Lotus with a 1:20.447.

With a couple of minutes remaining Nico Rosberg took the top spot with Paul Di Resta and Sergio Perez looking to avoid the drop out zone.

Out in Q1 were: Esteban Gutierrez, Paul Di Resta, Charles Pic, Giedo van der Garde, Jules Bianchi, Max Chilton

Rosberg and Grosjean continued their battle of the top spot along with Lewis Hamilton in Q2.  But it was Sebastian Vettel who got into the 1 minute 19 seconds lap time with a 1:19.992.  But the biggest casualty was Jenson Button who could only manage 13th and not make the final qualifying session.

Q2 losers: Adrian Sutil, Nico Hulkenberg, Jenson Button, Jean-Eric Vergne, Pastor Maldonado, Valtteri Bottas

Again the fight for pole was between Hamilton, Grosjean and Rosberg in the final qualifying session.  A mad rush with a few minutes of the session remaining saw all drivers on track but it was now Vettel leading the times.  With Grosjean and Rosberg trying to knock him off the top spot, it was Hamilton that stole pole position from Vettel on his last flying lap.
