Fiat 500 Ron Arad: 1957 Predecessor Superimposed On Bodywork

Limited Edition Trim Pays Homage To Classic Predecessor

What Is it?

The Fiat 500 Ron Arad is a limited edition city car trim that has a prominent outline of the classic Fiat 500 superimposed on its body.

This 3-door hatchback is only available with metallic black exterior paint – and only 200 will be sold in the United Kingdom. The outline of its predecessor is bright white and stretches from the rear bumper to the centre of the front wheel (on both sides). It also covers part of the side window. The white outline complements the white wing mirrors, glass sunroof and 16” alloy wheels. The interior has black leather seats with ivory trim.

The manufacturer claims: “You can see the quality at a glance”, and that “it’s a work packed with detail and exclusive materials”. Its purpose – Fiat argues – is to “innovate, surprise and get noticed”.

As the name suggests, this limited edition trim was created in partnership with Ron Arad, an Israeli-born and London-based industrial designer, architect and artist. One of his most famous pieces - titled “In Reverse” - incorporates 6 compressed original Fiat 500s and was exhibited from December 2013 to March 2014 in the Pinacoteca Agnelli (Turin). He is described by the motor manufacturer as “a life-long fan of the original Fiat 500”.

What Engine Does It Have?

The 500 Ron Arad has a 1.2-litre, 69bhp, petrol engine teamed with 5-speed manual transmission. 0-62mph takes 12.9 seconds and maximum speed is 99mph. This 3-cylinder unit – that has a start/stop system to save fuel - averages 60.1mpg, returns 65.7mpg on the extra-urban cycle, and hits 51.4mpg through town. Carbon emissions are 111g/km which equates to Road Tax Band C. This ensures that it can be taxed for free in year 1 and £30 thereafter (based on the current rates).

What Equipment Does It Have?

Standard equipment includes: automatic climate control, remote central locking, electric windows, power mirrors, front fog lights, a 7” TFT instrument panel and the Blue&Me system that – among other things - enables the driver to connect external devices such as smartphones. Safety features include the driver, passenger and side air bags plus the electronic stability system and anti-lock brakes.
