Ford has unveiled an all new four wheel drive Kuga

Ford has unveiled an all new four wheel drive Kuga. Due to be launched early next year the new Kuga will be offered with two 2.0 litre diesel engines and a 1.6 litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol unit which will join the line up at a later date.

New features include a tailgate that opens and closes automatically when someone waves a foot underneath the rear bumper, great for when you have your hands full. The rear seats fold flat with a touch of a button creating a much larger area.

Stephen Odell, Ford of Europe’s chairman and CEO said “innovative technologies like the hands-free automatic tailgate clearly set new Kuga apart from its competitors, but more importantly they provide customers with everyday advantages. All-new Kuga is more spacious, dynamic and capable than the current model, which continues to be popular with our European customers.”

Looks OK but self opening tailgate and press button folding seats are only gimmicks.Do the seats fold perfectly flat with no lip to form a perfectly flat and unrestricted area? The old kuga doesn't and will it be available with a fuel efficient automatic gear box. These are the things most relevant to me. If the answer to these questions is no,then I would look elsewhere. Price is also important and as Ford is not a premium brand it needs to be much less expensive than Audi,BMW or even VW.

still no automatic transmission. Why???
