Forecourt Update: New Hyundai i20 S Blue

Low Running Costs And Fuel Efficiency Guaranteed

What Is it?

The Hyundai i20 S Blue is the most fuel efficient, environmentally friendly and cheap to run version of the manufacturer's supermini.

What Engine Does It Have?

This 5-door hatchback is powered by a 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder, 75PS, diesel engine that is teamed with 6-speed manual transmission. It averages 88.3mpg, manages 94.2mpg on the extra-urban cycle, and hits 80.7mpg in town. Emissions are 84g/km which – as it is below the 100g/km threshold – ensures this trim can be taxed for free.

Fuel efficiency is optimised via a start/stop system. Its purpose is to automatically switch-off the engine while the vehicle is stationary, perhaps in a traffic jam. The engine re-starts as the motorist presses the clutch pedal to select a gear. Furthermore, fuel is saved via the low-rolling resistance tyres that consume less engine power as they spin than their traditional counterparts.

What Equipment Does It Have?

New Hyundai i20 S Blue safety features include front, side and curtain air bags plus the electronic stability programme that makes cornering safer. These complement the hill-start assist function that prevents it rolling backwards as the motorist pulls away on slopes. It also has a tyre pressure monitor, anti-lock brakes, emergency stop signalling and speed sensitive automatic door locks.

Less safety focussed equipment includes: electric front windows, power mirrors, remote central locking, driver seat height adjustment, USB/AUX connection, MP3 stereo and a perimeter alarm.

Anything Else I Need To Know?

The New i20 Blue is a practical town car. It has 5 seats, for starters, and the manufacturer says it has “class leading combined front and rear legroom”. It also benefits from a class-competitive 326-litre boot, and folding the rear seats flat increases cargo capacity to 1,042-litres. Its compact exterior - and modest 5.1 meter turning circle – make manoeuvring in town straightforward.

Furthermore, the manufacturer claims the exterior styling is “a study in elegant simplicity”. It argues that every feature line is “confident”, every curve “subtly seductive”, and the “low, wide stance and sloping roofline hint” at the vehicle's energy.

How Much Is It?

The Hyundai i20 S Blue costs £12,445 on the road. The price includes a 5 year, unlimited mileage, manufacturer warranty that can transferred to all subsequent owners if the vehicle is sold.

New i20 S Blue optional extras include the 3 year, fixed price, service plan that costs £449, and the 5 year equivalent for £749.
