Korean F1 GP Race Result

Sebastian Vettel got the better start over pole-sitter Mark Webber at the Korean Grand Prix

Sebastian Vettel got the better start over pole-sitter Mark Webber at the Korean Grand Prix, however despite the Australian attempting to fight back, the German kept his team-mate behind.

Jenson Button had a nightmare start when his front right tyre got hit by the flying Sauber of Kamui Kobayashi, who had also bounced off the Mercedes of Nico Rosberg. The German retired for the second time in two races, while Button was also forced to sit out the rest of the race. Kobayashi was then handed a drive-through penalty for his part in the collision.

By lap 7 Vettel was leading by 1.4 seconds over Webber, with Fernando Alonso back in third. Gaining quite a few places over the first few laps was the Toro Rosso of Daniel Ricciardo. Starting in 21st, he’d move up to 14th, with his team-mate Jean-Eric Vergne just ahead in 12th.

Vergne was adding himself to the battle between Michael Schumacher and Paul di Resta for 10th, as the former champion was trying to keeping the young drivers at bay.

Lewis Hamilton was the first to dart into the pits for the first round of stops on Lap 14, but it was di Resta and Romain Grosjean that had to narrowly avoid driving into each other, as the Force India team left it late to release the Scot from his stop.

Not long after, Hamilton was struggling with his tyres and lapping one second slower than those near him, he was overtaken by Felipe Massa. Kimi Raikkonen also looked to take advantage, but the McLaren driver wasn’t prepared to give up that easily.

Vettel continued to lead at the halfway point with Webber a further 8 seconds behind. Alonso had his team-mate, Massa looking to overtake for the final podium spot - a good race for the underfire Brazilian, after his podium last time out. But with Alonso fighting for the championship, the faster Massa was told in certain terms not to overtake.

Nico Hulkenberg took advantage of a battle between Hamilton and Grosjean, as he overtook both of them as they went three abreast into turn three. A stunning and fearless move from the German saw him move up to 6th place.

Toro Rosso were having one of their best races this season as both Ricciardo and Vergne were comfortably in the top ten, although Vergne had to keep Hamilton behind him. The McLaren driver then picked up some artificial grass off the circuit, which had attached itself to the side of the car. Vettel was told by his team that despite his 7.2 second lead there were problems with his right front, which could affect him under braking. Webber responded to this by setting the fastest lap of the race.

Sebastian Vettel took his second consecutive race win, as Mark Webber took 2nd, followed by Fernando Alonso.
