Be ready.... Mercedes-Benz looks set to thrill visitors at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The highlight will be the four beauties tackling the famous hill climb. These are a W194 300 SL, which was a highly successful competition car two years before the road- going Gullwing was produced. This complements the 1937 W125 Tripoli Grand Prix car, the 'fin-tail' W111 220 SE saloon from 1963, and the 1997 CLK-GTR which was devised for FIA GT racing. What a line-up, but why is the Mercedes-Benz A-Class multi-purpose vehicle excluded? That could manage the climb - and take your kids to school on the way.

Marcus Breitschwerdt, President and CEO, Mercedes-Benz UK, said: “There is so much to look forward to at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed. We celebrate 60 years of our SL-Class with the latest model arriving in the UK just in time for the Summer. There will also be plenty of new delights to see, in what is a very busy year for Mercedes-Benz in the UK.”

The super-speedy hill climbers will be accompanied by five new high-performance cars, which will be on display in the AMG section. That alone is worth the ticket price. Furthermore, five new Mercedes-Benz and Smart cars will make an appearance, and there will be a couple of surprises too. Nope, I cannot tell you what – it would spoil the fun.
